It is very important to understand the distinctions between different forms of liquidation whatever your circumstances might be. The most common form of liquidation comes about as the result of a winding up petition and is referred to as being a Compulsory Liquidation. But there are other forms of the process known respectively as Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation (CVL) and Members’ Voluntary Liquidation (MVL). A CVL involves company directors voluntary taking their businesses into liquidation, which will usually be preferable to compulsory liquidation, and an MVL, which is a best practice process designed for situations in which solvent companies are being entered into liquidation.
