The most commonplace form of liquidation in the UK is compulsory liquidation, meaning a company has been pursued by its creditors and cannot pay off what debts they owe. It is generally preferable from the perspective of a director to take your own company into liquidation on a voluntary basis through mechanisms known as Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidations (CVL).
It can also be worth familiarising yourself with Members’ Voluntary Liquidation (MVL), if you are considering how best to liquidate a solvent business.
